Stable flows with restricted edges

چکیده
Stable flows generalize the well-known concept of stable matchings to markets in which transactions may involve several agents, forwarding flow from one to another. An instance of the problem consists of a capacitated directed network, in which vertices express their preferences over their incident edges. A network flow is stable if there is no group of vertices that all could benefit from rerouting the flow along a walk. Fleiner [13] established that a stable flow always exists by reducing it to the stable allocation problem. We present an augmenting-path algorithm for computing a stable flow, the first algorithm that achieves polynomial running time for this problem without using stable allocation as a blackbox subroutine. We further consider the problem of finding a stable flow such that the flow value on every edge is within a given interval. For this problem, we present an elegant graph transformation and based on this, we devise a simple and fast algorithm, which also can be used to find a solution to the stable marriage problem with forced and forbidden edges. Finally, we study the stable multicommodity flow model introduced by Király and Pap [24]. The original model is highly involved and allows for commodity-dependent preference lists at the vertices and commodityspecific edge capacities. We present several graph-based reductions that show equivalence to a significantly simpler model. We further show that it is NP-complete to decide whether an integral solution exists.

• Stable matchings with restricted edges. Our first objective was to tackle various problems involving restricted pairs defined by Dias et al. [1]. This problem extends the classical stable matching problem by providing three possible roles for every edge: forced, forbidden and regular. While optimal solutions must contain all forced edges, forbidden edges must be avoided. Dias et al. show that...
متن کاملPeriodically correlated and multivariate symmetric stable processes related to periodic and cyclic flows
In this work we introduce and study discrete time periodically correlated stable processes and multivariate stationary stable processes related to periodic and cyclic flows. Our study involves producing a spectral representation and a spectral identification for such processes. We show that the third component of a periodically correlated stable process has a component related to a...
متن کاملStable Flows over Time
In this paper, the notion of stability is extended to network flows over time. As a useful device in our proofs, we present an elegant preflow-push variant of the Gale-Shapley algorithm that operates directly on the given network and computes stable flows in pseudo-polynomial time, both in the static flow and the flow over time case. We show periodical properties of stable flows over time on ne...
متن کاملExternal and Internal Incompressible Viscous Flows Computation using Taylor Series Expansion and Least Square based Lattice Boltzmann Method
The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has recently become an alternative and promising computational fluid dynamics approach for simulating complex fluid flows. Despite its enormous success in many practical applications, the standard LBM is restricted to the lattice uniformity in the physical space. This is the main drawback of the standard LBM for flow problems with complex geometry. Several app...
متن کاملStability analysis of block-flexural toppling of rock blocks with round edges
One of the most conventional toppling instabilities is the block-flexural toppling failure that occurs in civil and mining engineering projects. In this kind of failure, some rock columns are broken due to tensile bending stresses, and the others are overturned due to their weights, and finally, all of the blocks topple together. A specific feature of spheroidal weathering is the rounding of th...
